How We Got Started

Back in 2012, I was working at one of those big corporate firms where you're basically a number crunching machine. Don't get me wrong - I learned tons, but something felt off. Small business owners would come in looking terrified, leave more confused than when they arrived, and get bills that made their eyes water.

One day, my cousin called me panicking about a CRA notice. She'd been using discount tax software and missed some GST filings. The fix took me maybe 45 minutes, but she'd been losing sleep for weeks. That's when it hit me - there's gotta be a better way to do this.

So I took the leap. Started Luminarion Front in my spare bedroom with two clients and a dream. The name? Well, "luminarion" isn't really a word, but it sounds like illumination mixed with clarity - which is exactly what I wanted to bring to small business accounting.

Fast forward to today, we've helped over 300 small businesses get their finances sorted. We've grown from just me and my laptop to a team of six accountants, two bookkeepers, and one office dog named Debit (yes, really).

Here's what hasn't changed though - we still answer our phones. We still explain things in plain English. And we're still genuinely excited when our clients' businesses grow. Maybe that makes us nerds, but honestly? We're okay with that.

The Vancouver small business community has become like family to us. We've been through economic ups and downs, COVID chaos, endless CRA changes, and celebrated countless wins together. Every tax refund, every successful audit, every business milestone - they matter to us because you matter to us.

Our Journey

2012

The Beginning

Started in a spare bedroom with two clients and way too much coffee. Filed our first HST return and felt like we'd conquered the world.

2014

First Office Space

Moved into our first real office on Homer Street. It was tiny, but it had a window and we didn't have to meet clients at coffee shops anymore.

2016

Team Expansion

Hired our first two employees. Turned out delegating was hard, but having help during tax season? Life-changing.

2018

100 Clients Milestone

Hit 100 active clients and celebrated with a team dinner. Also realized we needed better software because Excel wasn't cutting it anymore.

2020

Pandemic Pivot

Went fully remote overnight. Helped clients navigate CEWS, CERB, and about fifty other acronyms. Stressful times, but we're proud we helped folks get through it.

2022

Suite 400 Upgrade

Moved to our current space - Suite 400 with actual conference rooms and everything. We kept the hybrid model though, 'cause honestly? It works.

2025

Today & Beyond

Over 300 clients, a team of eight awesome humans (and Debit), and still loving what we do. Here's to the next chapter.
